Here we go with an update for Tablatures.

This release carries the following changes:

Guitar In symbols could disappear when undoing a change to a system. Fixed.

Improved stability when editing the tablature while playback is in progress.

UPDATE: due to a terrible mishap, a wrong archive went online some hours ago. If you run into problems when switching between scores, please download it again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

A new year has arrived, so why shouldn't a new Tablatures be released as well?

After a lot of digging, I've discovered a bug in the compiler (the tool used to convert ideas into applications you can use on your Mac) that caused some crashes while saving certain tablatures. It's been reported to Apple, so that their engineers can fix it.

In the meantime, a workaround has been implemented to avoid the problem.

A new Tablatures release is here, just in time for your own Christmas present

The list of changes since the previous version includes:

Added option to change the size of chord names (Edit -> Chord Names Properties...).

Improved rendering in tablature-only display to prevent chord names to overlap with the first notation line.

Here's a new Tablatures update.

The list of changes since the previous version includes:

MIDI playback: the tempo slider can be used to speed the song up too (up to 2x faster than the tempo set in the document).

Standard notation: extra notation lines could be drawn with an huge length, thus causing excessive slowdown, when a system contained many positions. Fixed.

Why doesn't playback emit any sound?

The typical requests can be summarised as "I hear the metronome clicking and then silence".

The usual culprit is the lack of a Guitar In symbol at the start of the document. Tablatures uses Guitar In's to determine which instrument (as defined using the Score -> Edit Guitars menu) should be used for playback.

When you create a new document, Tablatures already puts a Gtr I symbol at the beginning.
If you delete it or need to change instrument in the middle of a song, adding a guitar in symbol is very easy to do:

Tick the Guitar In checkbox in the Musical Symbols Panel:

Then choose the guitar(s) which should be start playing from the current caret position:

Finally, you might want to make sure that all the guitars you have used are actually defined among the instruments used by the score. So let's use the Score -> Edit Guitars menu and edit them as needed:

Here you can choose the MIDI instrument to use, apply some effects and change its tuning.

Chord Dictionary: disable the "Add to Score" button when no document is open.

Disabled autosave on GuitarPro documents, to avoid problems. It's a good practice to convert GP docs to PowerTab before starting to edit them, anyway.

A new release of Tablatures is available.

The list of changes since the previous version includes:

Preferences: added an option to save documents automatically every X minutes. Autosaved documents will appear as "name (Autosaved).ptb" in the same directory of the original document, or in "~/Library/Autosave Information" for new, never saved before documents. In case Tablatures crashes, autosaved documents will automatically be reopened.

Editing the tablature or performing undo/redo while playback was looping over a section could result in a crash. Fixed.

Fixed a crash that occurred trying to add a system above the first one, when the first one didn't have any tempo markers.

TabLibrary continues the experience of the powertabs.net community, in cooperation with Music Sales.

Right now, 20000+ Power Tabs from powertabs.net are freely downloadable and, according to their frontpage, new submissions will be accepted soon.

Tablatures 1.14 has just been released.

The list of changes since the previous version is:

Mac OS X 10.4 is the new minimum requirement.

Removed some code needed to work around some OS X 10.3 bugs.

Expanded the Chord Dictionary with many voicings missing an optional note (e.g. 7th without 5th).

Save as... will properly change file type to .ptb when used with Guitar Pro documents.

A new version of Tablatures is ready for download.

Apart from fixing a MIDI playback issue, it implements a feature that's been requested by several users: the option to change the tablature font size. You'll find it using the "Edit" -> "Tablature Staff Properties..." menu.
